Today’s earnings have been immense:
Selfies in the park, selfies beside the road, selfies in the bookshop…
I believe everyone passing by must have thrown an admiring glance,
Even before my posting them online, the ultimate goal of my travel.

I’m so afraid that time will slip by, so quickly that I can’t even catch its tail.
I’m so afraid that I’ll always be ignored, that I’ll always remain so “common”, so unlike “myself”.
I’m so afraid that others will think that I’m not pretty enough, or clever enough.
So I direct the Lens of the World towards Me.

Yes, Me.
The beautifully unique Me, demanding your whole attention, your praise.
Yes, Me.
The ultimate fusion of the subjective and the objective,
The forever desiring Libido, the self-referential Myth of Yesterday and Tomorrow.

Today’s earnings have been immense:
The beauty of flowers withered into the background behind Me,
The dancing sunshine dissolved into the noise of the buzzing cars, leaving Me bright.
The flowing words of poetry lay silently on the dusted shelves, subordinate also to Me.

Today’s experience might be fleeting,
But, today’s earnings have been immense.

The Imaginary soliloquy of a modern solipsist. Visiting a bookshop merely to take selfies? Pardon me?
